I had greater success using my virtual/dual-boot madness than a lot of Windows users who had to download all of the applications to their desktop. I never had any issues with lagging unless the router was crowded with other users and in that case, I would just run a virtual desktop, which was oftentimes faster. would recommend at least 256GB though because dual-boot takes up like 80GB). For an entire semester, I ran dual-boot Windows for all of my program classes (Matlab, AutoCad, Excel VBA, SolidWorks, etc) on my basic Macbook Air 2017 (128GB. Mac is really great for running a dual boot. If you have read it all you deserve a huge thumb up! * Should I wait for a next generation of Apple chips for Macs? (not really excited about such idea)

* If the Pro (the fan) is the way to go - is 256GB enough (never cared about deleting stuff from my PC, currently keeping junk since I own a huge capacity HDD & SSD, so I don't actually know how much do I need)? Should I squeeze out some extra money and upgrade it as well? * I could get an ideal Air (8/8, 512GB, 16GB) for around a same price as a less ideal Pro (8/8, 256GB, 16GB). (LoL shouldn't even be a big factor in any consideration, just an example) * Don't care if the only issue would be dropping from 60fps in LoL to 55fps etc. * I care about the fan - do I need it? What do you think? Is it worth spending more only for it? * I don't care about touchbar, slightly brighter display, slightly better speakers etc. Which Macs are you considering (+obligatory specs) * MacOS product could be a nice addition to my iPhone & iPad (ecosystem?) * Display (looking at those in store is nice) * Silent (another thing I know to appreciate (used to have a slim gaming laptop)

  • Only planing to play some League of Legends from time to time and something like Among us, Human Fall Flat, whatever comes at the time etc.
  • I do own a PS4 Pro and will probably in a year time consider buying PS5, so playing AAA titles would not be an issue.
  • #Best mac for engineering students mods#

Long answer - I only truly played one demanding game on my PC (Cities: Skylines, with all DLC's, dosen of mods and workshop assets, totaling over 50GBs of RAM :)).

  • Since I am coming from a PC, you might be wondering if I would miss PC gaming.
  • And of course, writing documents, web surfing, etc.

  • What this means is that some of those assigments that require Windows-only software could be done on other machine (my parents' laptop).
  • Some of which I will not need on regular basis (only for some assignments).
  • Other software I need/will need are: Scilab, Matlab, Dymola, Simulink, DOSBox, PSPICE etc.
  • I do use other JetBrains stuff, P圜harm 2nd most, but it is again another JetBrains' product to be ported.

Currently using JetBrains' CLion, and to my understanding they are working on bringing it to the M1.

  • Object-oriented programming in C++ is something I do often as well.
  • That means I often use Arduino IDE or some other IDE, mentioned next.
  • Most of my time is being spent developing for Linux-based systems (think of robots driven by Arduinos or Raspberry Pi, ones based on Robot OS etc.) which I can develop on probably any machine (ARM could be a plus, do some testing on the Mac itself).
  • I do own and use Apple products regulary (currently iPhone XS, owned iPhone 7 and 5s before, and an iPad 7), and use Apple Music as my music streaming service of choice.
  • Now, since Apple has introduced a very interesting new chip, I was thinking about migrating to some of M1 powered Macs.
  • So, for some not reading whole bullet point:

Eventually I did install W10 alongside a fresh Ubuntu install (joined the Linux world) where now I spend most of my time on my dual-boot system.

I am life long pc user, used Windows for a long time, but when MS started forcing you to upgrade to Windows 10 from 7, I was not very happy. So, as I stated, I am an engineering student, precisely Electrical engineering on a programme specializing in system control, automation and robotics.

This post will be a bit longer, I would appreciate if you have time to read it and give your opinion. Hello everyone, I am new to the sub and I would like to ask you (kind of a long) question(s) after a lot of a research on M1.
